The Background

Stories: Residents favour the locations along this path for the peaceful, green spaces and beautiful views. Many childhood memories rank around the escape to wild while still with sight of the parents house down in the valley – adventure and safety.

Details: Distance: 17.5 km; duration: 5:57 h; ascent: 380 m. Difficulty: Difficult. A very good fitness is required for this trail. The walk includes street walking, natural paths and gravel paths.

Waypoints: The trail starts at Whitwell Moor car park. We follow the path around the moor and stop in lovely village of Bolsterstone before we turn south towards Broomhead Reservoir. With a final view over the reservoir from the dam wall we cross Manchester Road to ascent towards Wharncliffe Crags. The thirsty walker can rest at the Royal Oak in Deepcar before the path leads on along the Porter or Little Don River westwards passing the Clock Tower Gardens and Stocksbridge’s Garden Village and back to the car park.
