The Background

Stories: This walk includes parks and woods that are the green oasis in a bustling and busy city. Residents love the peace and enjoy the rich wildlife. The area is rich in remnants of the industrial past of Sheffield and reminds the residents of the many small stories that create the history of this part of the city and people that lived here before.

Details: Distance: 13.7 km; duration: 4:28 h; ascent: 200 m. Difficulty: Intermediate, easily-accessible paths and road included in this trail. Suitable for all walking skill and fitness levels.

Waypoints: We start at the car park near Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet and visit the site before we cross the Sheaf and follow Abbey Lane towards Beauchief Abbey. Turning eastwards we take the path through Park Bank Wood until we reach Graves Park where we have a nice stroll around the lake. Crossing the A61 we enter Abbey Lane Cemetery and further on to Hutcliffe Wood. Crossing the A621, we enter Ecclesall Woods full of wildlife and location of a bird sanctuary. Turning south we follow the path towards Ecclesall Road and return to the car park.
